Can You Sell Opened or Damaged CGM Boxes?

Quick answer: Opened boxes can't be sold, even if the sensor or pod inside is still in its sealed tray. Damaged boxes can't be sold either: we only buy factory-sealed, unopened, mint-condition boxes, so dents or dings, writing, adhesive residue, crushed corners, torn or half-peeled labels, or water damage mean the box is not accepted and not paid for.

Why the seal matters so much

The factory seal is the only proof that what is inside the box has never been touched, swapped, or stored somewhere it should not have been. Once it is broken, nobody down the line can verify the product, so the box has no resale value no matter how perfect the contents look. That is why the seal is the one rule with no exceptions.

The full condition guide

Condition Can you sell it?
Factory sealed, clean box Yes, full price
Outer shipping carton or mailer opened, product box still sealed Yes, full price
Crushed or dented corners, dents or dings No
Writing or marker on the box No
Torn or half-peeled labels No
Adhesive residue No
Water damage or stains No
Box opened, contents still in sealed tray No
Loose sensors or pods with no box No
Expired, or under the minimum shelf life No
Bought outside the U.S. No

Keep the expiration date and the REF code visible. Those are printed by the manufacturer and are how your box gets verified. On Dexcom boxes, the REF code is also how you tell a sellable retail box from one that can't be bought. See retail vs DME boxes.

Why damaged boxes can't be sold

We only buy factory-sealed, unopened, mint-condition boxes. A box with dents or dings, writing, adhesive residue, crushed corners, torn or half-peeled labels, or water damage is not accepted and is not paid for, even if it is still sealed. Condition is checked box by box at inspection, so one crushed box in a shipment of ten does not affect the other nine.

The best way to avoid it is to pack well. Most corner damage we see happens in transit, not in someone's closet. Our packing guide takes five minutes and protects your payout.

Common questions

Can I sell a Dexcom box if I opened it but never used the sensor?
No. Once the box is opened it can't be verified, even if the sensor is still sealed in its tray. Only unopened, factory-sealed boxes qualify.

Will a dented box be rejected?
Yes. We only buy mint-condition boxes, so boxes with dents or dings, writing, adhesive residue, crushed corners, torn or half-peeled labels, or water damage are not accepted and are not paid for.
